Baer
Winery. 2000 Ursa Red Wine Columbia Valley ($26; a blend
of 38% merlot, 32%cabernet franc and 30% cabernet sauvignon): Moderately
saturated medium red. Aromas of redcurrant, blackberry, tobacco, marzipan,
flowers and sexy oak spice. At once juicy and creamy in the mouth, with
sweet, spicy red berry flavors enlivened by ripe acids. Finishes with firm
but fine tannins and a floral lift. Wears its 100% new oak gracefully.
Nicely unmanipulated wine, bottled without fining or filtration. The label
of Lance Baer, formerly the assistant winemaker at DeLille Cellars. 89.
