CATALOG RELEASE PARTY

MAY 1, 2008, 6-8pm

Vérité Coffee & Cupcake Royale, 1101 34th Ave, Madrona, Seattle

FREE EVENT

Join us at Vérité Coffee & Cupcake Royale in Madrona (34th & Spring) on Thursday, May 1st to celebrate the release of The Seattle-Havana Poster Show catalog. The full-color catalog documents the Seattle/Havana silk-screen poster pairings presented at Bumbershoot 2007 and most recently at Centro de Desarrollo de las Artes Visuales (CDAV), Havana. Curators Daniel R. Smith and Jacob McMurray will present slides from the April 17th Cuban premier.

Exhibit catalogs and limited edition silk-screen posters by Havana designers Grupo Camaleón will be available for purchase with proceeds going towards print costs. Plus, Lisa Baer from Baer Winery, Woodinville will be pouring their newest release, the 2005 Ursa, an amazing blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec & Petit Verdot.

The Seattle-Havana Poster Show exhibit catalog made possible with the
generous support of the American Poster Institute, AIGA Seattle, Girlie
Press and Society Co. Only 500 copies available in the U.S.! Of 1,000 copies printed, 500 were transported to Cuba and donated to CDAV to help fund their ongoing exhibitions.

The Seattle-Havana Poster Show is a selection of over 40 silkscreen-printed posters sharing cultural themes such as music, film, theater and other arts events from these two cities. Cuban artists include Eduardo Muñoz Bachs (1937-2001), one of Cuba's most famous poster designers, and recent graduates of Havana's design school, el Instituto Superior de Diseño (ISDI).

Cuban posters are paired with the work of established Seattle designers such as Art Chantry and Jeff Kleinsmith, as well as works by up-and-coming young designers. The show is a collaborative curatorial effort between Seattle's Jacob McMurray (Senior Curator, Experience Music Project), Daniel R. Smith (Creative Manager, Starbucks Coffee), Havana's Pedro Contreras Suárez (Curator, CDAV) and Pepe Menéndez (Design Director, Casa de las Américas).

Complete your May Day celebration with Cuban music at St. Clouds restaurant starting at 8pm. After the catalog release party, walk down the block from Vérité where Seattle's own Supersones will be playing the St. Clouds bar.

This six piece band plays Son, a unique blend of Spanish guitars and
harmony, Afro-Cuban percussion and swing. St. Clouds is located at 1131 34th Avenue, Madrona.
